Schloss Gabelhofen
Spirit of the age
The Hotel Schloss Gabelhofen combines historic architecture of a moated castle and the warmth of a modern hotel, designed with great attention to detail. Enjoy the comfort and luxury of a truly special home.
A welcome sight
With its impressive walls, moat and four majestic towers that now hold exclusive multi-storey suites, the first sight of Hotel Schloss Gabelhofen will take your breath away. A wooden bridge leads over the castle moat, past the garden right into the arcade court. Today, a modern entrance with a glass roof creates a bright room with cozy sitting areas – the ideal place for us to welcome you.
A quick look back
Schloss Gabelhofen was mentioned for the first time in 1443 – intended to be built as a moated castle on the banks of the river Pöls. However the soil in the moat leaked too quickly, causing this feature to be rejected and resulting in a ‘normal’ Renaissance castle. The unfinished moat has been preserved to this day.
Many generations have called Schloss Gabelhofen their own over the centuries, such as the Pfanngauer, the Prankhherren, Gabelkhovener and the House of Liechtenstein. It was only in 1908 that Prince Friedrich von und zu Liechtenstein sold the entire estate to the Styrian steelworks in Wasendorf. After the First World War it became a home for the workers from the factories.
A hotel to feel good
Hotel Schloss Gabelhofen has been part of Projekt Spielberg since 2014. The last renovation took place in the winter months of 2016/17. Today the castle presents itself, perfectly preserved including suites and rooms that are equipped with the highest comfort. Hotel Schloss Gabelhofen not only invites its guests to relax, but offers ideal settings for family celebrations and holding seminars.
Escape from your everyday life
The young and creative cuisine is peppered with the high-quality ingredients. The Authal char for example comes from the region as well as the game raised in your own hunting territory.
